Andrew Brown

Andrew Brown was a teacher of language and literature before becoming a freelance translator. His translations are mainly from the French, with some Italian and German: both fiction and non-fiction, from Aretino to Zola, by way of crime stories, children’s books, legal documents and recipes. He has also written on subjects such as Barthes, Schumann and Spinoza – and, for Hesperus Press, two Brief Histories(of encyclopaedias and biographies) and two Brief Lives (of Stendhal and Flaubert).
