Alma 2022 Complete Stocklist (Free with Any Purchase)
The pandemic has affected all of us in different ways, and we enter 2022 with the renewed hope that we can soon return to some kind of normality. Reading is certainly one of the greatest and most reliable comforts during these turbulent times, and we are delighted to present to you our usual blend of poetry, classics and children’s books from around the world.
Our Evergreen list will see the publication of one of the landmarks of world literature, Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment, in a brand-new translation by Roger Cockrell, as well as Edith Wharton’s masterpiece, The House of Mirth, and Sinclair Lewis’s enduringly popular satire set in the Roaring Twenties, Babbitt.
Our list of Russian classics continues to grow with the publication of Ivan Goncharov’s The Frigade Pallada – an ‘immortal’ book, in the words of Mikhail Bulgakov – a new collection of Chekhov’s short fiction, Small Fry and Other Stories, and a dual-language edition of four tales in verse by Ivan Turgenev: Parasha and Other Poems.
Three ambitious editorial projects will come to fruition this year: the complete fiction works of Virginia Woolf, the entire canon of Sherlock Holmes stories and novels, and a four-volume, dual-language edition of Alexander Pushkin’s lyrical poems.
As for our Calder list, we are delighted to reissue Alain Robbe-Grillet’s trailblazing screenplay Last Year at Marienbad, accompanied by photographs from the iconic film directed by Alain Resnais, winner of the Golden Lion at the 1961 Venice Film Festival.
Finally, we are delighted to publish one of the most beloved stories ever written, The Adventures of Pinocchio, beautifully translated by Stephen Parkin, thoughtfully illustrated by Peter Bailey and accompanied by extra material for young readers.
We hope our selection of titles will cheer you up in these difficult times, and we thank you once again for your continued support.
