About CALDER PUBLICATIONS – EST. 1950
A historical list championing some of the great avant-garde writers of the 20th century and introducing some of the best writing from Europe.
Throughout the second half of the twentieth century, Calder Publications was known as one of the pre-eminent English-language publishers of exciting, avant-garde literature, and was a trailblazing proponent of fiction in translation. Under the stewardship of John Calder, the publishing house brought out novels, plays and poetry by such literary luminaries as Samuel Beckett, Henry Miller, William Burroughs, Alain Robbe-Grillet, Marguerite Duras, Claude Simon and Robert Pinget.
